Freedom of Information Act Practicum

The Freedom of Information Act Practicum combines an in-depth study of the Freedom of Information Act and the legal aspects of transparency, with practical and challenging work that assists private individuals, journalists, and organizations obtain information from the authorities.

Over the years, graduates of the Movement for Freedom of Information's practicum have filed hundreds of freedom of information motions that have shaped public agenda, and have set new standards in transparency and good governance. Freedom of information motions filed by students have uncovered issues pertaining to the expenses at the Prime Minister's Office and various ministries, ministers' schedules, and records from pivotal government meetings, to name a few.

Students participating in the program will learn how to request information from the authorities; they will work with journalists, and will learn from MFI attorneys how to file freedom of information motions with the courts.

This program caters to second and third-year students. Admission is based on a personal interview.

The program awards students six semester hours, and comprises 52 annual hours that include academic training in the letter of the law and the diverse rulings it has inspired, as well as guest lectures.
