Abstract:
Superordinate goals can be defined by the following: “the need for cooperative interdependence in which the groups are working toward the same goals.” Superordinate identities means “the need for an overarching identity that includes both the ingroup and the outgroup.” This study assessed students’ - in competitive or cooperative ingroups - abilities to trust the outgroup and like them. Overall, results indicate that creating a cooperative co-existence between groups can lower the chance of violence and endorse peace, via the formation of outgroup trust.

Abstract:

Though many people in the UK do not interpret the gender pay gap reading as a means to reduce gender pay gap disparities, employers are still required by the government to have this information publicized. This study specifically assesses the effect of format on people’s opinions of the pay gap information. Three considerations – providing the factual information (i.e., Joe makes $42k and Lisa makes $40k), writing about the present success of the company compared to others, or using appealing visuals – each elicits a different reaction from those in the UK. Some people are seen to react more positively to business success and visual appeals without seeing the disparity, while the monetary amount in dollars and coins caused a negative reaction. It is understood that having people in the UK see gender pay gaps can spark social change and can affect people’s desire to give certain organizations business.

Abstract:
Inter-community sporting events in conflict-ridden areas have the ability to start the process of social change. These sporting groups endorse inter-group contacts between members of different ethnic groups which can reduce any negative ingroup vs outgroup thoughts. However, sporting events are not enough to create social change, additional factors are also needed.

Each program is tailored to the cultural and contextual needs of the country, and reflects lessons learned from successful "She Leads" alumnae.
