The Hans Morgenthau Scholarship Program

The Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy, the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS) at Bonn University have established the Hans Morgenthau Scholarship Program, named after the renowned German-Jewish scholar of international politics. Up to five students will be awarded Hans Morgenthau Scholarships each academic year. Successful applicants will be awarded a prestigious scholarship to undertake a full semester of accredited study (in English) at the University of Bonn, Germany, specializing in governance, European integration, international relations, or advanced security studies. Hans Morgenthau Scholars will have their travel and health insurance costs covered, and will receive a monthly living stipend for the duration of their study at the University; one of Germany’s most prestigious 'Universities of Excellence' (www.uni-bonn.de).

Hans Morgenthau Scholars will be hosted by CASSIS – an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Bonn, specializing in strategic affairs, security, global governance, and European integration studies. The aim of CASSIS is to develop and evaluate European strategies for current challenges in the field of foreign and security policy and to discuss them in public in order to strengthen security policymaking as well as strategic research and debates in Germany and Europe. Student’s experience:

Lilia Gaufberg:

My experience in Bonn, Germany contributed greatly to both my academic growth and personal growth. The chance to study in a different country not only exposed me to subject matter outside of my usual learning experiences, but to interact with the German educational system and German students in a hands-on way. In terms of my personal growth, I gained a lot by learning more about the Jewish community in Bonn, as well as diving more deeply into the history of the Jewish people in Germany. Overall, my time in Bonn was exceptionally meaningful and fulfilling, I am grateful that I had this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!

Leor Bialy:

The Hans Fellowship allowed me to better understand the international security and geopolitical climate. During my stay in Germany, I had the privilege of studying at the University of Bonn, connecting with colleagues and experiencing the local culture. It was a privilege to take part in this program and I looking forward to visiting soon!
