Accommodation


  • The University provides 450 rooms and flats that exchange students can apply for. All applicants are informed about the outcome of their application at the beginning of June for the autumn semester and at the beginning of December for the spring semester.
  • Another option is private housing. The accommodation is in flats or houses, owned by individuals or property companies that rent out to tenants. It can vary considerably in size, from rooms or small flats for one or two persons to larger properties usually located in the outskirts of Gothenburg.
  • Students will either live on their own or share the premises with the owner. Estimated living expenses:
  • Accommodation 2500-5500 SEK, Food 2000, Telephone & Internet 300, Local travel 435-580, Insurance & Medical care 300, Hobbies and Leisure 1000.

Location, Facilities & Visa:


  • Gothenburg is situated on Sweden's west coast at the outlet of the Göta river. Gothenburg has a reputation of being a friendly place, even more welcoming than the Swedish capital.
  • Public transportation within Gothenburg (and the west of Sweden) is operated by Västtrafik and consists of trams, buses and ferries. Public transport in Gothenburg can be very slow: For example, to cross one side of the city to the other can take up to an hour. However, inside the central area, transport is fairly rapid.
  • Every Friday, some pubs and restaurants have after work specials with a free buffet and happy hour prices.

 

  • Starting November 1, 2022, the Swedish Migration Agency started a new procedure for stricter checks of passports in connection with application for a residence permit. All applicants for a resident permit, including exchange students, must show their passport at an in-person visit before the Swedish Migration Agency can make a decision.
