  • פרופ' יואב יאיר הוא הדיקן של ביה"ס לקיימות באוניברסיטת רייכמן. תחומי המחקר שלו הם מדעי האטמוספרה והחלל, ובפרט סופות ברקים בכדור-הארץ ובכוכבי-לכת אחרים, חשמל אטמוספרי, השפעות השמש על האטמוספרה והאקלים, זיהום אוויר ותופעות באטמוספרה העליונה כמו שדוני ברקים.
    הוא ביצע מחקרים ותצפיות בישראל ובשיתופי פעולה בינלאומיים נרחבים עם מדענים מאירופה, ארה"ב ויפן. היה אחראי על ניסוי האסטרונאוט הישראלי על מעבורת החלל קולומביה ב-2003 ובהמשך חזר על הניסוי מתחנת החלל הבינלאומית בשיתוף סוכנות החלל של יפן וב-2015 עם סוכנות החלל של דנמרק במסגרת משימת האסטרונאוט הראשון של מדינה זו.
    פרופ' יאיר הוא גם מומחה לטכנולוגיות למידה ושימש כדיקן הפיתוח והטכנולוגיות באוניברסיטה הפתוחה, שם היה אחראי לבחינה והטמעה של טכנולוגיות ספרים דיגיטליים, למידה ניידת, הרצאות וידאו וקורסים מקוונים. בין השנים 2012-2014 שימש כראש מיט"ל, גוף בין-אוניברסיטאי העוסק בהתאמת טכנולוגיות למידה במערכת ההשכלה הגבוהה.
    פרופ' יאיר פירסם מעל 95 מאמרים בעיתונות המדעית וכן כתב מספר ספרי לימוד אוניברסיטאיים ולמערכת החינוך בישראל. הוא מרצה מנוסה ואחראי על מושבים שונים בכנסים בינלאומיים בחו"ל ומשמש כשופט מוערך בשורה של כתבי-עת מדעיים נחשבים.
