The G City Real Estate Institute at the Harry Radzyner Law School hosted on June 8-9, 2022 the inaugural meeting of the Mediterranean Urban Law & Policy Network – a new international and interdisciplinary research consortium dedicated to the study of legal and urban policy for Mediterranean cities.

The meeting was organized by Prof. Amnon Lehavi, who serves as academic director of the G City Real Estate Institute and a faculty member at the law school, in collaboration with Prof. Christian Iaione and Dr. Elena De Nictolis of the Faculty of Law and LabGov.City research institute at LUISS University in Rome, Italy. The meeting was attended by top scholars from universities in Spain, Morocco, Turkey, France, Italy, Malta, the United States, and Israel.

The key mission of the forum is to collaborate in promoting theoretical and applicative research pertaining to the legal and urban policy of cities located along the Mediterranean coast. During the meeting, the participants addressed the variety of challenges that typify the Mediterranean region and how cities can meet such challenges, including climate change and rising see levels, urban planning in light of rapid urbanization processes in coastal areas, economic development, immigration policy, and preservation of cultural heritage in the twenty-first century.

In addition to the academic sessions at Reichman University (see here the conference program), the participants held study tours in Tel Aviv, Caesarea, and Jerusalem, and laid out the principles for the future work of the Mediterranean Urban Law & Policy Network.
