Iron Swords Scholarship Fund

For students who have experienced financial hardships due to the war

The State of Israel is in the midst of one of the most difficult and complex periods in its history. The events of October 7th and the ongoing war that ensued have impacted many of us.

With the outbreak of the war, the Reichman University administration decided to establish a special fund to grant scholarships to hundreds of financially disadvantaged students serving in the reserves, or the security and rescue forces, who have been substantially impacted financially due to their enlistment. Additionally, scholarships will be extended to students directly affected by the war, or whose immediate family members have suffered harm. The purpose of the fund is to offer these students meaningful support to aid in their recovery and rehabilitation.

Unlike state-funded universities, Reichman University is a non-profit institution that does not receive government funding, and any financial aid provided to students comes from donations raised by the university.

Deadlines for scholarship applications: There will be two rounds for submitting applications, corresponding to the release dates of the reservists. The first submission window is from December 10, 2023, to January 10, 2024. The subsequent window, for those released after January 10, 2024, will be announced shortly.

How to apply for the scholarship: The application for the scholarship must be submitted through the online personal information portal. In the toolbar, click on General > Forms. A new window will appear featuring the reservists’ scholarship application, and you will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire.

After reviewing the submitted form, we may reach out to request additional supporting documents for verification purposes.

Scholarship eligibility:

  • Students who are enrolled in a full study program for the 2023-2024 academic year and are paying full tuition.
  • Students pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at either the Israeli or international school.
  • Students who receive financial aid from the university or merit scholarships of up to 50% of the tuition fee, even if they receive additional scholarships, and provided that the total aid they receive does not exceed the tuition fee.
  • Students who served in the reserves and have experienced significant financial hardship due to their reserve duty.
  • Students directly affected by the war (including those wounded and those whose immediate family member was killed or injured in the war, was kidnapped, or is missing).
  • Students whose homes were damaged in the war or who were evacuated from their homes in the Gaza border communities or the north as the result of a government decision.

Please note that students with outstanding tuition debt from a previous academic year will only be eligible to apply after settling their debt in full. Students who have prolonged their studies or are repeating a year will not be eligible to apply for assistance.

Students who have already qualified for a socio-economic scholarship for the 2023-2024 academic year through the standard process at either the Israeli and international school and were called up to reserves on an emergency order (“Tzav 8”) for more than 30 days, or members of the security and rescue forces who were called up to full-time duty for more than 30 days, do not need to submit this application.

Please submit confirmation of your duration of service/employment to the Scholarship Department via email: scholarship@runi.ac.il (for students at the Israeli school) or abehrendt@runi.ac.il (for students who received a scholarship from the international school). Eligible students will receive an additional one-time grant to supplement the approved socio-economic scholarship provided that the total sum of awarded scholarships (including external scholarships) does not exceed the tuition fee.
