Accommodations for Special Populations

Reichman University is aware of the needs of the special populations and thus provides accommodations to assist and facilitate students with challenges and difficulties to help them cope during their studies.

Please note that students with learning issues and attention deficit can find additional information on the page about students with learning disabilities.

Students requesting accommodations due to other issues must fill out the form "request for accommodations due to medical disabilities."

- Has been living in Israel up to seven years
  
  New Immigrant Students A New Immigrant is any immigrant who has been living in Israel up to seven years. The period of the new immigrant served in the IDF or in national service shall not be taken into account for the seven years. Recognition as a new immigrant shall be among those students in the Hebrew tracks only. In order to be recognized as a new immigrant a student must send a request in writing to the Student Administration together with a photocopy of his Certificate of Oleh and as required a certificate of release from the IDF or certification of the national service period. A student who has been recognized as a new immigrant will receive extra time on exams in the Hebrew subjects throughout all of the student's studies toward a bachelor's degree. Extra time shall not be given in English courses and/or in courses in which the exams are administered in English (or in another foreign language). The examiners will be instructed to ignore spelling mistakes when giving grades or evaluations. The new immigrant students will be permitted to use Hebrew/mother tongue dictionaries during exams. New immigrant students are entitled to submit requests to take exams and hand in assignments and papers in English. Such requests will be submitted through the Student Administration Office and approval is subject to the discretion of the Lecturer. Lecturers will need to meet the deadlines for returning the assignments/papers/tests set in the Regulations also in cases in which the requests to submit exams/papers/assignments in English have been approved. Requests must be submitted in writing, through the Student Administration Office.
- Receive recognition as ethnic minority students
  
  Only students studying in the study tracks in Hebrew will be recognized as ethnic minority students.
  
  In order to be entitled to accommodations during studies the ethnic minority student must declare that his mother tongue is not Hebrew, he studied in high school in his native language, he took his matriculation examinations in his native language.
  
  Students who receive recognition as ethnic minority are entitled to accommodations during their studies.
  
  These students are entitled to extra time on their exams.
  
  Extra time will be allotted to Moslem students during the Ramadan fasting period on all exams.
  
  The declarations must be submitted to the coordinator of the study track at the Student Administration.
- Accommodations which will help them during the course of their studies
  
  Pregnant women who present medical certification of their pregnancy are entitled to accommodations which will help them during the course of their studies. The students will receive extra time on all their exams, which will be held during the months of their pregnancy. They will be entitled to go to the restroom without any time restrictions during the course of their pregnancy. Requests shall be submitted in writing through the Student Administration. - Students who are 45 or older and who would like to receive extra time on exams are invited to submit the request in writing, through the Student Administration Office.
