Application Period - Ph.d. in Psychology

Registration Dates:
- For the “Research Students” track for a Ph.D. in Psychology: 1.1.24 - 1.7.24
- For the “Supplementary” track for a Ph.D. in Psychology: Registration is open all year round.

Admission Requirements
Candidates who meet the conditions of one of the tracks detailed below and satisfy the unit committee that they possess exceptional research capabilities required of Reichman University research students will be recommended by the unit committee for admission as “Research Students” into the doctoral program.

 

Finding an advisor from the list of advisors is mandatory to apply. An application to the program cannot be submitted without securing an advisor.

Admission Requirements for the Various Tracks in the Doctoral Program in Psychology for the academic year 2024-2025

 

“Research Students” Track for a Ph.D. in Psychology
1. Only individuals with a master’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive sciences, or organizational behavior with a research thesis may apply for the “Research Students” track for a Ph.D. in Psychology.

 

2. Minimum admission requirements:
- A master’s degree average of at least 88
- A thesis grade of at least 90
- Approval from a faculty member at the school willing to serve as the doctoral advisor
- Writing a preliminary doctoral proposal in English (no more than 5 pages) approved by the advisor. Link to the instructions for submitting a preliminary doctoral proposal

 

3. The doctoral committee will review candidates who meet the minimum requirements and decide on their admission. Upon acceptance, students will be called “Research Students” and will begin Phase A of the doctoral program, which includes fulfilling the requirements of core and elective courses (12 credits) and writing the research proposal for the doctoral thesis.

“Supplementary” Track for a Ph.D. in Psychology
1. Candidates eligible to apply for the “Supplementary” track for a Ph.D. in Psychology:
- Those with a master’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive sciences, or organizational behavior without a research thesis.
- Those with a master’s degree in other disciplines mentioned above, with or without a research thesis.

 

2. Minimum admission requirements:
- A master’s degree average of at least 88
- A thesis grade of at least 90 (for candidates who completed a research thesis)
- Approval from a faculty member at the school willing to serve as the doctoral advisor

 

3. Candidates for the supplementary program require the advisor’s approval for future supervision and must work on a preliminary proposal to be submitted by the end of the supplementary period. Upon initial approval, the program head will decide on their acceptance into the supplementary track and determine the specific supplementary curriculum. Upon acceptance, students will be called “Research Students in Training” and must meet the following requirements before becoming “Research Students”:

 

  • Master’s degree holders in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive sciences, or organizational behavior without a research thesis must conduct a research project and write a research report equivalent to a master’s thesis under the supervision of the doctoral advisor, achieving a grade of at least 90.
  •  Master’s degree holders in other disciplines with a research thesis must complete supplementary psychology courses (courses offered in undergraduate or master’s programs at the school of psychology), achieving an average grade of at least 88. The quantity and identity of the supplementary courses will be determined individually for each student in consultation with the doctoral advisor.
  • Master’s degree holders in other disciplines without a research thesis must both conduct a research project equivalent to a master’s thesis (according to the conditions mentioned above) and complete supplementary psychology courses (according to the conditions mentioned above).

 

4. After completing the supplementary track (conducting a research project and/or completing supplementary courses), candidates must write a preliminary doctoral proposal in English (no more than 5 pages) approved by the advisor. 5. The doctoral committee will review candidates who meet the minimum requirements (at least 90 in the thesis-equivalent project, at least 88 in supplementary psychology courses) and decide on their admission to the “Research Students” track based on their preliminary proposal. Upon acceptance, students will be called “Research Students” and will begin Phase A of the doctoral program, fulfilling the requirements of core and elective courses (12 credits) and writing the research proposal for the doctoral thesis.

Required Documents
Applicants for the doctoral program in psychology must submit the following documents along with the application form. In online registration, scanned documents should be presented to the registration department upon request.

 

  • Curriculum vitae
  •  Original copies of academic degree certificates
  •  An original copy of a document from the educational institution stating the final weighted average for the degrees mentioned
  •  Names of three referees and/or letters of recommendation. Link to download a template
  •  List of academic publications (if any)
  •  Candidates who wrote a master’s thesis must attach it to the registration materials and provide an original confirmation of the thesis grade.

 

Upon receiving confirmation from the registration and admissions manager of the receipt of the registration documents and meeting the minimum requirements, the applicant will be asked to submit a preliminary agreement from a faculty member at the Baruch Ivcher School of Psychology at the rank of senior lecturer or higher to serve as the research advisor. Additionally, candidates for the “Research Students” track for a Ph.D. in Psychology will be asked to submit a preliminary research proposal of up to 5 pages (in English) accompanied by the advisor's approval. Registration Fee
Applying involves a registration fee of 300 ILS. The registration fee covers part of the costs of processing the registration and screening of candidates and is non-refundable under any circumstances, even if the registration is canceled by the applicant for any reason.
