About the workshop:

Legal practice - in Israel and the world - is diverse. There are few social/economic/political processes where law is absent. Consequently, the challenges faced by lawyers are becoming more and more complex. The purpose of this workshop is to expose the dilemmas and difficulties that arise out of legal practice. The workshop will be devoted to examining the work of lawyers in Israel along three central axes: the private sector, the public sector, and the non-profit sector. With respect to each of those, we will discuss, among others, the following issues: the client's interest versus the social/institutional interest; discovery of truth, doing justice, and the client's interest; the lawyer as an officer of the court versus the lawyers as representing the client; lawyers who represent the state, and lawyers as agents of social change. Each session will address a different aspect of the lawyer's work, wherein we will host a guest from the relevant legal practice.
