The Shira Banki Anti Hate Clinic

Students will provide legal aid and consultation to victims of online racism and incitement.

In the recent years there had been a worrying incline in the amount of racism and incitement against minority populations on the Israeli online and public sphere such as Arabs, Women, refugees, the Ethiopian community, the LGBT community and more.

The fight against this phenomenon took place using the Penal Code, although it had been narrowed down by authorities out of concern for free speech. Proposals of laws on this area did not make it to the final legislative processes. Therefore, the clinic will deal with this subject, which is in the nexus of law and information technology.

Students will provide legal aid and consultation to victims of online racism and incitement. They will also write and publish position papers on policies devoted to promote tolerance. From the legislative prospect, students will write and promote proposals of law and amendments of existing laws.
