About the Program

We are delighted to be able to partner with Cardozo. Our unique program is intended for those who have successfully completed LL.M or MA studies in the thesis track (the dissertation should be submitted in English), including non-law graduates.

This program will allow students to finalize the Doctor of the Science of Law (JSD) degree within three-four years of which the students are required to live in New York for two years.

The study program will be divided into two stages:

Stage I – LL.M

The first stage will be devoted to a full year of studies towards an LLM degree at Cardozo in New York. This year will include studying 24 credits of courses to be chosen by each student, in accordance with Cardozo's LLM program requirements. The LLM degree at Cardozo enrolls about 60 students each fall, and 25 students each spring semester, from more than 30 countries around the world. At the end of the studies, the students will receive a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from Cardozo. Note that this degree will not make you eligible to meet the New York Bar requirements because you do not have a qualifying first degree in law from Israel.  The studies start in January or in August. During this year the students are required to reside in New York.

Stage II - JSD

Following the successful completion of the LLM degree at Cardozo students usually will start their JSD studies for a minimum three-year period, of which the first year will be in residence in New York. The following two-years can be completed from anywhere in the world. For Reichman students there is an exception, for they can complete their JSD studies within two years (of which the first year will be in residence in New York and the following year can be from anywhere in the world) if their thesis progresses well, and the committee determines that the dissertation is ready for oral defense.

Students will be able to have a joint supervisor from Reichman University (preferably their Thesis supervisor). Further information can be found here.

Following the successful submission of the dissertation, the doctoral students will defend their dissertation in an oral defense before an Examination Committee, either on campus or remotely.
