Internship opportunities for MA RRIS

Diplomacy & Conflict Studies + Thesis Track:

Internship opportunities for MA RRIS graduates in the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy are available at a variety of government offices, non-governmental organizations, and Lauder School research institutes and programs.

The internships approved by the School can be for academic credit and provide students with the opportunity to obtain invaluable practical experience in the public and third sectors. We encourage students to take advantage of the diverse internship options, which in many cases open for them career doors.

Students interested in applying for an internship are requested to send their CV to the Assistant Academic Director, Mr. Ori Barzel. After receiving your CV you will be invited to a formal interview by Ori Barzel to assess your compatibility for the program and to discuss internship options; you will be asked to rank your three top internship option preferences. In the interview process, your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, level of commitment and fit to the relevant institutions will be examined.

This process will take place during the Fall semester, while the internship will be conducted in the Spring semester.

Some additional important details:

  • 2 credits will be given for completing the internship – after handing in an academic paper, based on the work done at the relevant institute, and receiving a professional evaluation from the supervisor at the institute.
  • Credits will be given on a pass/fail basis.
  • An internship requires at least 6 hours per week during at least one semester.
  • The internship must be approved in advance by the Assistant Academic Director, Ori Barzel, who will guide the students during the entire process and conduct at least two meetings during the semester with each one.
  • Important note: even if the institute requires more than 6 hours per week, only 2 credits will be given for it.
  • Conducting an internship at Lauder School research institutes requires Ori Barzel's approval in advance as well.
  • The possible internship opportunities may change during the academic year.
  • As per FAFSA rules and regulations, students borrowing FAFSA loans cannot do an internship in a non-approved FAFSA institution during the same academic year.
Only students who do their internship in a FAFSA approved institution might get credits towards their internship as part of their academic curriculum. If you are a FAFSA student and wish to take part in the BA or MA internship program, please contact Joanna Simon-Bigart immediately.
