Inspiring and intimate talk with Omri Casspi and ASE Honors classes

By Tamir Sida

For the first time ever, the Adelson School's honors program hosted an event that brought together all ASE's honors classes, from first-year students to alumni of the honors program, for a unique and inspiring session. We had the privilege of welcoming Omri Casspi for an interview that delved into his transition from an illustrious basketball career to the venture capital sphere. Conducted by Yasmin Lukatz, with Dean Yossi Maaravi co-hosting, the event offered us a rare glimpse into the mindset and motivations behind Casspi's successful pivot to investment, specifically in fostering Israeli innovation.

Casspi's journey, from the courts to the boardroom, was highlighted through a series of thoughtful questions that uncovered the depth of his commitment to supporting early-stage tech startups through his venture, Sheva. His approachable manner and willingness to share personal experiences made the complex world of venture capital seem more accessible. He emphasized the importance of qualities such as vision, determination, and adaptability in founders, directly linking these traits to his own experiences in sports and now in business.

The discussion was not just about business strategies but also touched on Casspi's social initiatives, particularly his efforts to combat antisemitism. This added a layer of depth to the conversation, showcasing his holistic approach to his work and life.

Yasmin Lukatz's insightful questioning and Dean Maaravi's hosting created a dynamic environment that allowed students and faculty to gain valuable insights into the intersection of entrepreneurship, investment, and social responsibility.

“This wasn't merely an interview; it was an inspiring session that motivated us to pursue our entrepreneurial dreams with passion and purpose, mirroring the dedication Omri Casspi has shown in every facet of his career.” -Tamir Sida (1st year C.S+Entre. Student)
