"The continuous use of technology can cause cognitive and emotional problems. The challenge we have to deal with is how to turn the equation around and use technology to develop tools that will overcome problems; from hearing and vision difficulties to emotional issues, well as tools to rehabilitate the brain and stop its degeneration. These technological tools, which are based on an understanding of the human brain allow us and others to decipher the mysteries of the brain and to map it in an unprecedented way."

BRAIN & COGNITION: Technological tools, based on an understanding of human and animal brains, allow us to decipher the mysteries of the brain and map it in an unprecedented way. The main goal is to use this unique approach to examine age-old basic but mysterious scientific questions about the brain and human civilization, such as What has a greater impact on us - nature or nurture? Is our brain more elastic or more stable over the course of lifespan and can we reverse time and make an older brain more plastic/younger? Which of our senses correspond to which daily tasks and how are these tasks represented in maps and areas in the brain? TECHNOLOGY: We have been taught that evolution takes tens of thousands of years. That every minor change in our body encompasses tens of thousands of almost invisible changes, which evolve over an extended period of time. That is all true, but Prof. Amir Amedi has something to tell you about the speed in which our brain evolves. Surprisingly, it seems that the brain can mimic evolution and develop specialization at amazingly greater speeds and time scales. This can be done through a combination of non-invasive technology and brain training. For example: seeing through sounds is something that bats and dolphins have evolved to do so over tens of thousands of years. At our institute using the EyeMusic technology and dedicated training blind or sighted people can be trained to see through sounds in a matter of weeks.
