Wishi

Wishi is an app designed to accompany users and enhance their online shopping experience, by making it more conscious.

What is it?

Wishi is an app designed to accompany users and enhance their online shopping experience, by making it more conscious. Wishi aims to reduce impulsive buying by promoting mindful purchasing decisions. The app is based on a theory developed by Daniel Kahneman, which posits that people think using two systems: System 1, which is fast, and System 2, which is deliberate. Wishi guides users to make informed decisions through System 2, leading to smarter consumption and planned purchases rather than momentary impulses.
The application allows users to set a personalized monthly budget and create a wishlist of items they want to purchase by category, aiding in prioritizing spending on genuinely desired items. By setting these parameters, Wishi reflects to users where they stand compared to their goals, thereby ensuring that their spending aligns with their personal financial objectives and true needs.

How does it work?

How does it work?
Wishi operates in the background of the phone, monitoring the user's activities. As soon as the user adds an item to the shopping cart in an online store, Wishi compares the item to the set monthly budget and wishlist. Based on this comparison, Wishi provides real-time alerts designed to assist the user in making an informed decision. The purpose of the alerts is not to prevent the purchase, but rather to encourage pausing and reconsidering the purchase, which has been proven to shift the user from the instinctive and rapid System 1 to the deliberate and calculated System 2 in the brain.
The alert will indicate whether the product is on the wishlist and within the monthly budget, across four different scenarios:
1. Fits the budget but not on the wishlist.
2. Does not fit the budget but is on the wishlist.
3. Fits the budget and is on the wishlist.
4. Does not fit the budget and is not on the wishlist.
Additionally, WISHI offers users the opportunity to reflect and rate their past purchases. This feature enables users to assess the necessity and satisfaction of each item bought, which assists in understanding and improving purchasing patterns over time.
