GIO

An object that enables to translate the abstract geometric concepts into visual representations.

What is it?

Gio enables to translate the abstract geometric concepts into visual representations. Children that are in their initial stages of learning geometry can experience with the smart surface, on which they place physical pieces called “vertices” that integrate the spatial space with digital information in real time. The system presents data on top of the vertices such as angles and length of sides according to the relative location of the pieces. On top of the surface the system displays a combination of formal questions provided from official textbooks of the ministry of education and geometric thinking challenges in a gradual increasing levels of difficulty. The system is designed to create an absorbing experience that leads to enjoyment and cognitive stimulation. The interface is intuitive, comfortable and dynamic to help increase the sense of confidence and motivation among the users.

How does it work?

GIO is a physical product that folds and powers up when unfolding it. The prototype is comprised of 3 parts. The first part is an interface, on which the physical objects called “vertices” are placed on. After placing the vertices, the system sends feedback on top of the surface. The second part is a folding arm that holds the third part, the processing unit box. This box can be pulled out for charging in an electricity outlet. Inside the processing unit box sits a processing unit “Raspberry Pi 3” that calculates data it receives from the camera “Raspberry Pi Camera V2.1” that captures the vertices that are placed on the surface. The processor sends feedback that contains questions, data and sounds to the projector (model “Pico”) that projects on top of the surface. The processor connects to internet by Wi-Fi to the main server that feeds it with updated questions and version upgrades.
