CarCare

A monitoring and alert system designed to help the driver maintain driving focus

What is it?

CarCare is a monitoring and alert system designed to help the driver maintain driving focus. The system is based on cognitive behavioral principles to help avoid or reduce distractions in the vehicle. The system tracks the driver's eye movement using a camera and displays an animation of LED lights which captures the attention of the driver and directs his gaze back to the road. The system differentiates between distractions and natural eye movements that do not interfere with safe driving.

How does it work?

The system consists of a camera for recognizing movements of head and eyes (Tobii Eyetracker 4c), a NodeMCU Wifi component and an animative LED strip of lights (DotStar). The algorithm identifies the location of the driver's eyes, compares the data to the boundaries of a predefined field of vision and analyzes the duration of the deviation. When detecting a deviation, an alert is sent and the lights activate depending on the deviation, from right to left or from left to right towards the driver's view back to the road.
