The Université de Montréal (UdeM) is a French-language public research university in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
The institution comprises thirteen faculties, more than sixty departments and two affiliated schools: Engineering & Business. It offers more than 650 undergraduate programs and graduate programs, including 71 doctoral programs.

The university presently has 66,768 students; more than 9,500 are international students, while another 8,000 are considered permanent residents of Canada. In the 2020 Academic Ranking of World Universities, the university is ranked 151–200 in the world and 6–9 in Canada. The 2021 Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed the university 73rd in the world, and fifth in Canada.

A minimum B2 level (from the Common European framework) certificate/letter delivered by an accredited institution (home university’s Department of Languages, French Alliance, School of Languages, etc.) is required to most programs of study.

On-campus accommodation is available, but the number of rooms is very limited for exchange students.
To find off campus housing, visit the off campus housing office. The Bureau has a data bank of apartments and rooms located near the UdeM or in neighborhoods that are easily accessible by metro or bus.

The Bureau cannot make reservations therefore, it is a good idea to arrive two to three weeks before the beginning of classes.
Although the cost of living in Montréal is relatively low compared to other large North American cities, foreign students should expect to spend large sums of money to get settled and buy winter clothing and books for courses.
